The 1975 standards for dog food manufacturers required that their foods exceed the known Minimum Daily Requirements (MDR) for nutrients. In 1985 this was changed: Dog food needs only to meet, not exceed, these standards. The Minimum Daily Requirement provides enough nutrition to sustain the life of a laboratory dog for 24 hours. The dog food manufacturer recommends the amount to feed your dog based on the dog's weight. If your dog does not eat all that the manufacturer recommends, your dog will not get the Minimum Daily Requirement for nutrients. |
